About
Founded in 2010, Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado (AATPC) was one of the first counseling centers in the nation to integrate teams of professional therapists with a variety of rescued therapy animals to facilitate the counseling and psychotherapy process. It is a unique nonprofit mental health center that combines research-based psychotherapy with the healing power of the human-animal bond to treat clients of varying mental health concerns. The organization serves primarily the Denver Metro community, reaching more than 300 clients a year, and is still growing. With a mission to facilitate healing for all people in need with rescued animals, no client is ever turned away for inability to pay. Located on the Barking C.A.A.T. Ranch (Center for Animal Assisted Therapy), AATPC provides clients with a wide range of animal species to work with. Each rescued or rehomed animal has its own story and personality, creating opportunities for clients to practice growth and change within the animal-therapist-client relationships. The animals, trained therapists and the urban ranch setting, combine to provide a rich experience for clients to do hands-on work that creates change. AATPC’s motto is, “Rescued Animals Rescuing People”. MISSION STATEMENT Through our counseling and training programs, Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado provides and promotes animal assisted psychotherapy to facilitate healing for all people in need with rescued animals.
