Position Title: Mental Health Coordinator 
Exemption Status: Salaried Non-Exempt
Reports To: Empower Program Manager 
Salary Range: $45,000 - $56,000 Salary is set based on licensure, credentials, and experience.

Work Environment: This role is expected to work 40 hours/week on the HHC campus, except when offsite for HHC work-related   purposes. The existing schedule is 8 hours per day Monday - Friday, to include one evening shift each week.

Position Summary: The Mental Health Coordinator (MHC) is responsible for building a Mental Health Program for Hope House Colorado that includes a variety of mental health strategies and empowers teen mom growth along the Personal Self-Sufficiency continuum. The MHC will provide support and build partnerships that assist moms dealing with domestic violence, thoughts of suicide, addiction and substance abuse, family relationship problems, stress management, anxiety and depressions, and other issues associated with mental and emotional health. To help teen moms reach their mental health goals the MHC will develop programming and partnerships and will work with moms to access a variety of mental health supports, including, but not limited to counseling. The MHC directs teen moms to the right services and resources through administering a mental health questionnaire as a part of the teen moms onboarding process, as well as meeting with moms to build relationship.  If licensed, the MHC will provide counseling for a small case load of teen moms. If not licensed, the MHC will provide individual consultations and will match moms with the appropriate counseling partner to meet her counseling needs. The MHC will coordinate and lead various support groups. The MHC will partner with the Personal Growth Educators to provide classes and organize activities focused on mental health, personal growth, and healthy relationships, and will partner with the Parenting Educator on pregnancy related depression support. The MHC will conduct Connections Meetings & Individual Growth Plan (IGP) meetings with teen moms. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Director of Partnerships, envision and build a mental health program for Hope House Colorado that includes a variety of mental health strategies, in addition to traditional counseling (e.g., Anschutz virtual reality headsets, AA group, meditation and yoga practices, etc.). 
  • Work collaboratively with the Empower Program Manager to develop organizational goals for the annual operating plan in the areas of personal self-sufficiency, specific to mental health. 
  • Administer a mental health questionnaire during teen mom onboarding designed to assess her current mental and emotional health status
  • Support moms to resolve emergency mental health problems in crisis situations. This may include referral to hospitalization.
  • If licensed, counsel individual moms to promote optimum mental health. If not licensed, meet with moms for individual consultations and coaching sessions. 
  • Develop and lead support groups for teen moms experiencing a number of mental health issues, as well as developing and supervising external partners to lead groups (e.g., grief support, family member addiction, parent in prison, etc.). 
  • Develop and provide mental health classes in collaboration with other Hope House program staff on topics that support the needs of moms (e.g., stress, trauma, pregnancy-related depression). 
  • Effectively supervise (if licensed and appropriate) a team of counseling partners. Oversee counseling interns (as appropriate). Continue to create new counseling partnerships. Hosting group supervision with all of the partners IF licensed, if NOT then coordinating supervision with a licensed counselor.
  • Manage the scheduling of HHC Reflection Room during HHC business hours. 
  • Provide training for staff on appropriate processes, strategies, and responses to moms in mental health crisis, including QPR training. 
  • Provide financial assistance recommendations for individual teen moms to the Self-Sufficiency Program Manager.
  • Coach to support PAIRIN and spiritual growth when opportunities arise.  

Data Collection:  

  • Conduct HHC Connections Meetings with teen moms as assigned by the Admissions & Activities Coordinator within 1-3 weeks of enrollment. 
  • Conduct teen mom IGP meetings as requested and score IGPs each week.
  • Collect, input, and report data appropriately into software platforms utilized by HHC (Apricot and KPI Dashboard).

Supervisory Duties: 

  • Interns as available and appropriate 
  • Supervision for counseling partners (as appropriate, if licensed)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk as well as bend, squat, and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Paid Time Off (PTO):

  • Vacation: Upon hire, employees earn 6 hours of vacation per paycheck up to 120 hours (3 weeks) in a year. Accruals are adjusted to increase vacation earned per hours worked based on length of employment with HHC.
  • Holidays: HHC observes eleven (11) holidays throughout the year. Salaried employees are paid for these holidays according to the nationally recognized observation day for each holiday. In addition, salaried employees are currently gifted either the week of Christmas or the week of New Year’s off, to be scheduled at the discretion of their supervisor.
  • Sick Leave: HHC provides eligible employees with Paid Sick and Safe Leave (PSSL) and Public Health Emergency Leave (PHEL) in accordance with the requirements of Colorado's Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA).

Education or Training:

  • A Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field required.  Appropriate state credentials and licensing preferred but not required. 
  • Experience as a youth pastor or provider of Christian based counseling is valued
  • Training in trauma informed practices like Splankna, EMDR, or Brain Spotting are valued
